I wanted to add some color to the downstairs of our house, but all of the rooms are open and flow from one to the next. It was a challenge to choose a color that was bold enough to be interesting, but that would also look good with the other rooms. This deep red draws from accent pieces and window treatments in the adjacent living room.
I found this in the basement when we moved into our new home last year. It was structurally sound but in need of some sanding, painting and new hardware. This is the end result!
I found this table at an antiques store in Utah and I fell in love with it’s simple lines. The knobs are from Anthropologie and they inspired the blue color choice.
#4 Lynnette- Dining Room Chairs
Our dining room chairs were stained and beginning to fray on the sides. I put new fabric on them and then added plastic on top to protect from the kids spills.

We met Marie awhile back at a conference and when we saw her post regarding her trouble with her entry room, we swooped in and asked to help. Marie is great at entertaining and arts and crafts that we know with a little advice, she will be a designing super star in no time. We truly believe that everyone, can learn how to design their space to fit their style and their needs.
Here are Marie’s answers to our design questions to nail down her style and make sure our redesign fits her needs. And we are switching things up this Monday. Be sure to drop by to see what we have up our sleeve. We promise it’s going to be fun!
What are the measurements of the space?
The measurements are 137 inches x 174 inches. The bay window goes in on the 174 inch wall about 3 feet deep.
What are your favorite design store/home décor stores? They can be brick and mortar stores or online stores.
What is the most important thing you’d like done with the space?
Warm and inviting. I want paint on the walls, pictures, one or two focal pieces in the room. I’m thinking modern style. Maybe a table under the mirror we have on the wall by the door.
What are two of your favorite colors?
Brown, red, green, but we have that sage green carpet and green may not work. But we do plan to put in wood floors sometime, maybe.
What are two of your least favorite colors?
Yellow, blue, purple
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I don’t want anything on top of the partial wall, the one that could be a shelf. I want drapes, paint, a clock maybe, new lamp, maybe side tables.
Share any tips that you have for Marie in the comments below. We will be back on Monday to share our redesign. Have a great weekend!
